Job Summary

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring an English Residential Faculty. This position will teach at least five classes each semester with an expectation of teaching composition. Classes could be a mix of in-person, online, or hybrid format in 16-week and 8-week lengths. This position will begin August 15, 2025.

 

Essential Functions

Instruction 

  • Provides inclusive English instruction that fosters critical thinking and lifelong learning.
  • Engages students with diverse backgrounds and learning needs through varied, meaningful, and student-centered teaching methods.
  • Uses a variety of assessment methods and learning outcomes to evaluate knowledge of subject matter and monitors student progress through the preparation and grading of papers/projects.
  • Maintains consistent office hours to support student success and offer guidance that aligns with individual academic goals.

Course Development

  • Designs and develops inclusive course materials, curricula, and syllabi that support student growth and continuous improvement.
  • Incorporates feedback and innovative, current practices to ensure course content aligns with students' needs, interests, and goals, promoting equitable access to educational success.

Faculty Professional Service

  • Works collaboratively with division members and with other college staff to improve student learning through a variety of ways.
  • Serves on college and/or district committees to advance EMCC’s mission as an educational and cultural center for the community at large.
  • Contributes to a diverse and inclusive environment, fostering a sense of belonging for all students, faculty, and staff.

Professional Development

  • Engages in ongoing professional development to remain current in subject knowledge and pedagogical practices, upholding the college's high standards for excellence, innovation, and integrity.
  • Participates in relevant training and workshops, demonstrating accountability and ethical principles to benefit students and the college community.

Campus Presence

  • Engages in the academic life of the college as reflected in the Residential Faculty Agreement and College Plan.

Minimum Qualifications

            A Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric, Composition, Literature, Creative Writing, English Education, Journalism, New Media Studies, Teaching English               as a Second language, Linguistics. 

            OR

A Master’s in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in these prefixes/subjects: ENG, ENH, LIT, ENGL, RHET, WTG, COMP, CRW, LIN, JRN, ESL, BLE, BME, Rhetoric, Literature, Critical Thinking, Composition, Literacy, Linguistics, Writing.

A Master’s in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in courses with these keywords will be reviewed to verify applicability: HUM, SPC, LAE, EDU, IDS, RDG, Culture, Language, Critical Theory, Critical Analysis, Reading

Desired Qualifications

  1. A Master’s degree and/or PHD degree in English/Composition/Rhetoric or an MFA in Creative Writing, or a Master’s in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in English.
  2. Experience teaching English composition courses at a community college or university for two or more years.
  3. Experience working with, interacting with, and instructing individuals of diverse abilities and/or cultural backgrounds.
  4. Experience using active learning successfully in English composition courses at a community college or university for two or more years.
  5. Experience with successfully implementing relevant and engaging course content and materials.
  6. Experience with multiple teaching modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online, accelerated), and working with a variety of technologies.
  7. Meets the minimum qualifications to teach Humanities (HUM) classes: Master's degree or higher in Humanities OR 18 graduate-level credits in at least three of the following prefixes/subjects/keywords: AMST, AST, ASB, ANTH, ART, ARH, ARS, CLAS, CS, DAH, DAN, DNC, DRA, DRAM, THP, THPA, ES, ETHN, FMP, FMS, GST, GS, HIS, HST, HUM, AMCIV, AMC, ISP, LAN, LANG, ENH, LIT, MST, MHL, MUS, MUTH, PHI, PHIL, REL, RELI, RLST, THE, THR, American Studies, Anthropology, Art, Art History, Classics, Cultural Studies, Dance, Drama and Performance, Ethnic Studies, Film, Gender Studies, History, Humanities, Interdisciplinary Studies, Language, Literature, Media Studies, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Theatre.

Special Notes:

First interview and microteach in-person interviews will be conducted on March 3 and March 4, 2025. Final in-person interviews with administration will be conducted on March 31, 2025. 

Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.
