We are seeking a dynamic individual to be the Section Supervisor of the Visitor Access Specialist's team to schedule and prioritize the work of the section in providing a welcoming, positive first impression of the Laboratory to our visitors! Team coordination with Lab meeting hosts to validate visitors attending classified meetings are appropriately cleared and issued the correct level badge for access. Act as a co-subject matter expert for the contract release external government approval process of the Review and Release Tool (RRT).
As the Section Supervisor, your responsibilities include:
- Leading and prioritizing the work within the section; ensuring staffing is at the correct level for Lab support, supporting the interviewing, hiring process and hiring decisions; Coordinate training as needed and champion diversity and innovation. Mentoring, coaching and developing section staff.
- Keep track of cyclical events, e.g., Performance reviews, salary action and recognition awards of section staff. Schedule and run monthly section meetings. Review, approve leave requests and Visitor Access Specialist timesheets. Attend SECD and ZSG Group Leadership meetings.
- Coordinate Lobby and Leave schedules for coverage to support visitors, meetings and events. Collaborate with APL staff in meetings/events preparation discussions and support of large special events held at Kossiakoff, Parson’s, 200E-100 and B201 Auditorium and other visitor events (e.g. Family Visit Day).
- Coordination with the Incoming Visitor Control Office SME for approval of Foreign National Visitors through the FVA Process for both unclassified and classified foreign national visits.
- Participate in new building/lobby location planning meetings and Prepare ISTs for Visitor Access Specialists needed for lobby openings.
- Regularly review and modify visitor access specialists standard operating procedures and guidance documents as needed.
- In depth knowledge of Visitor Manager System (Passage Point) process and reports, Temp Badge process, integration with SIMS (through Visitor Authorization nightly download) and OnGuard Access Control System to manage visitor records and badges accesses as needed. Participate in Passage Point Visitor Management System and integrated systems upgrades.
- Track and report lobby visitor metrics and badges counts. Coordinate with the Incoming Office team for additional badges & badge supplies as needed. Handle Lobby office supplies and equipment orders.
- Oversight of Visitor VIP Parking Request process handled by Visitor Access Specialists. Handles VIP Meeting communication to ELT and lobby support for VIP/High Profile Visitors.
- Co-subject matter expert for contract release external government approval process cycle of the Review and Release Tool (RRT).
- Additional responsibilities as identified.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...
- Have a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration/Management, security or related field with previous supervisory experience.
- Have three or more years’ experience in a security subject area including work such as personal security with an emphasis on visit certification processes in the Defense Information System for Security (DISS).
- Proven experience in a security subject area.
- Knowledge and successful performance in security at a classified facility.
Are able to obtain Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
- Knowledge of the various government organizations that sponsor APL work and their relationship with the Laboratory.
- Experience building rapport with government security contacts and/or Public Affairs Offices.
- Think strategically and can lead change while ensuring change is delivered in a consistent way.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills, strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, excellent teaming abilities and familiarity with office communication tools - MS Outlook and Excel.
- A genuine interest in growing staff and a motivation to help others
- Top notch customer service skills are required for this high visibility position.
- Ability to take initiative to creatively resolve standard and unique challenges requiring cross-departmental and external coordination and collaboration typically gained through work experience in a demanding customer-supporting environment.
- Experience tracking and analyzing data to identify trends and make support, equipment and procedural adjustment recommendations/projections to management.

- Have a solid understanding Visitor Management Software, visitor badging requirements of a secure facility. Knowledge of the Defense Information System for Security (DISS) visit process, SIMS Security Integrated Management System and Lenel OnGuard Access Control System.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
