2025 Internship – Systems Engineer or Cyber Resilience Engineer

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Job Description

Description

Are you interested in learning more about systems engineering and/or cybersecurity and resilience in support of nationally important defense programs?

If you are pursuing a degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Cybersecurity or related technical field and want to apply systems engineering on multiple strategic weapons systems, we’d love to have you join our team!

We are seeking a Systems Engineering Intern and a Cyber Resilience Intern for the Systems Engineering Group in the Force Projection Sector. We provide vital systems engineering, cybersecurity, and system development expertise to nationally important strategic deterrence capabilities for the Navy and Air Force. As a member of our team, you will help develop and assess requirements, develop architectures and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) models, build and modify analysis tools, develop test plans and analyze test data, perform trade studies, and/or cybersecurity engineering for strategic weapons systems development programs. We are passionate about making critical contributions to these critically important programs, and you will be a key part of our success. With your help, we will remain at the forefront of weapon systems engineering and cybersecurity engineering of our nation's most critical systems.

As a Systems Engineering Intern, you will:

  • Work on teams to support systems engineering activities such as requirements analysis, architecture development, concept/technology development, risk assessments and test & evaluation for strategic deterrent systems.
  • Learn how to apply MBSE tools on the development and evaluation of complex strategic deterrent systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Collaborate on defining model-based design review requirements and updating the systems engineering process to apply advanced MBSE techniques.
  • Develop systems engineering experience on real-world systems.

As a Cyber Resilience Intern, you will:

  • Analyze and evolve the architecture, design, constraints, and requirements of fielded military and tactical systems to enhance system resilience to a cyber-attack in the presence of an adverse cyber environment.
  • Work on technical teams in the definition and design of robust and resilient solutions for the acquisitions, operations and sustainment of military and tactical systems in the presence of adverse cyber environments.
  • Contribute to strategy and early concept demonstration and development for new solutions considering cyber concerns and constraints while respecting and operating within the context of other system constraints.
  • Conduct security impact analysis for security relevant changes.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Cybersecurity or related technical field.
  • Have interest in Systems Engineering, MBSE or Cyber Resiliency.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

  • Have previous internship experience applying systems engineering principles or performing cybersecurity engineering.
  • Have familiarity or experience using systems engineering software, especially MBSE tools like Cameo/Magic Draw and DOORS.
  • Have experience (or interest) in developing and implementing model-based approaches to enhance the cyber resilience of complex systems, including threat modeling, vulnerability analysis, and security requirements development.
  • Have used MBSE tools and methods to design, analyze, and optimize systems for cyber resilience, including the development of system models, simulation, and trade studies to evaluate system performance and security.
  • Have an active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
