DESCRIPTION

The 2nd Floor is a 22-bed cardiac prep and recovery unit at UC San Diego Health's La Jolla Campus and 4-bed unit at UC San Diego Health's Hillcrest Campus. The unit provides care for a population of high acuity cardiovascular patients.

The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for providing administrative and clinical leadership. Develops standards of care coordination that demonstrates success in: promoting high quality, cost effective delivery of care; ensuring effective utilization of resources across the continuum; excellent customer service; and compliance with regulatory and internal UCSD requirements. Spearheads innovative projects and approaches involving multi-disciplinary factions for systems improvement that affects patient outcomes across the organization. Plans, schedules and organizes work for departments ensuring proper distribution of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel, space and facilities.

The Assistant Nurse Manager supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. The Assistant Nurse Manger assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.

The position is 40 hours/week, including regular coverage for the night shift. Must be flexible in schedule and can quickly adapt to pressing needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  • RN license issued by the State of California.

  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent ICU and PACU experience.

  • Cardiac experience.

  • Charge nurse and/or supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated skills to supervise clinicians effectively and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.

  • In-depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.

  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and employee performance. Provides input to decision-makers on human resources matters.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate levels of intervention and develop and apply effective solutions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem-solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants, and outside agencies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.

  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.

  • Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.

  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events, and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's Degree of Science in Nursing (MSN).

  • Clinical area certification or Nursing Administration Certification.

  • Experience teaching, coaching, and precepting registered nurses.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Position requires on-call.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $128,800 - $252,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $61.69 - $120.79

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
