The Board of Police Commissioners of the Village of Plainfield, Illinois is accepting applications for the position of police officer with the Plainfield Police Department.

Salary: $75,347 - $123,953 (after 8 years), as of April 30, 2024

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Plainfield:

  • U.S. Citizen or compliant with 55 ILCS 5/3-6033;
  • No felony convictions;
  • Valid state-issued driver's license;
  • Minimum of 20 years of age and UNDER 35 years of age by the application deadline date (September 13, 2024), unless meets requirements for lateral transfer or is otherwise exempt by state statute;
  • Possess 60 credit hours from an accredited college, university or junior college;
  • Possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Test Card issued within one year and prior to the written exam* (issued between September 23, 2023 and September 23, 2024);

  • The Village of Plainfield strongly discourages the employment of members of the immediate family of current elected officials and current employees of the Village. Final consideration is determined by the Village Administrator.

 

Lateral Transfer Candidates: An applicant who is currently or has been a police officer in good standing within the last 2 years with the law enforcement agency he/she is/was employed with and certified by the State certification board is eligible to be placed on a lateral transfer eligibility list. To determine if you qualifly, please see the Plainfield Police Department Lateral Transfer application.

  • Lateral transfer candidates are NOT required to obtain a P.O.W.E.R. test card;
  • Lateral transfer candidates are NOT required to take the written exam;
  • Lateral transfer candidates ARE REQUIRED to participate in the oral interview process.

 

Preference points will be awarded as determined by the Village of Plainfield for the following:

  • Military: Persons who were engaged in the military or naval service of the United States for at least one year,
    and were honorably discharged. A copy of Form DD-214 (indicating status of discharge) must be submitted
    with application to qualify.

  • Education: Persons who have obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice from an
    accredited college, university or junior college. A copy of your official or unofficial transcripts must be
    submitted with application to qualify.

  • Experience: Persons who are certified as a police officer from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and currently serving in a part-time or full-time capacity for a municipality within the state of Illinois.

Each of the above listed items may earn you five (5) preference points. A maximum of five (5) points total may be applied.
