Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Biological Sciences program at the University of Maryland, College Park, is searching for a Junior Lecturer/Lab Manager to support a large enrollment (>1000 students/year) introductory biology laboratory course (BSCI171, Principles of Molecular and Cellular Biology Laboratory). The Junior Lecturer will also teach one laboratory section of the course every semester and in the summer. This fulltime, 12-month position includes a full benefits package.
Lab Support Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and maintaining laboratory stock solutions and cultures for experiments
- Setting up the lab classrooms each week
- Supervising and managing prep TAs
- Developing and maintaining the prep manual for the course
- Testing and perfecting new laboratory exercises for the course
- Assisting the lab coordinator in maintaining and updating lab documents
- ordering lab supplies
- General maintenance of lab equipment
- Managing the inventory of lab supplies
- Establishing and maintaining compliance with university, state, and federal safety laws
- Managing the university online learning management system
Teaching Responsibilities include:
- Teaching one section of the lab course each semester and in the summer
- Maintaining attendance records
- Grading assignments
- Being available for office hours for students
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in biology or a related field
Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in biology or a related field
Experience:
- At least 1 year of laboratory research experience
- Experience teaching or tutoring college level molecular and cellular biology
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient at basic experimental design, laboratory skills, and data analysis
- Excellent organization and communication skills
Preferences:

- Master’s or Ph.D. Degree in molecular and/or cellular biology
- Research experience in molecular biology and/or cell biology
- Experience managing classes in an online learning management system (Canvas)
- Experience managing student workers
